What I have found in my years in Death Valley is that when you are alone in a place such as this, you totally confront yourself in the silence and austerity of that landscape. However, once you try it, it’s an experience you won’t soon forget. It can be not only enriching, but also liberating.

I know what you mean. I found the same experience in the Namib Desert. There, our little family was together, but the feeling of solitude affected all of us nonetheless.
