      • Yes. Quite the area attraction. Did you visit his childhood home? Incredibly small but so quaint. Winterset is a lovely area. Iowa gets a bad rap from some folks but I adore it here – born and raised and proud to be an Iowan. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Looking forward to your story.

      • Oh. That is on my To Do list! Have never been. LOL – especially since husband and I are now watching American Horror Story on Netflix! 🙂

      • You know, I’ve been in a lot of haunted places. Lots. But the Villisca Axe Murder House I had a very difficult time dealing with. The energy in that house is palpable. The story is horrible. In the children’s bedroom upstairs, a ball that was placed on the floor started moving by itself while I was standing there with my partner. The only other place that is as haunted is Death Valley Junction. But I can handle DVJ. I had to walk out of the Villisca Axe Murder House. It was making me ill.

      • There is an intense sadness in the house. Coupled with the remnants of violence. I can feel it from the street. But when you are inside that house, the feeling permeates you, gets inside your skin, crawls up inside you. Don’t go in the basement. It’s very bad. I’m not saying don’t see it, just know that it’s not a really happy haunted place.

      • Yes. You can stay the night. I cannot imagine wanting to do that, I would not do that. You couldn’t pay me to do that. I’ve slept in a number of haunted places, but I’d never stay there!

      • When my wife and I passed through Winterset some five years ago in mid-June, we spent some time in the Northside Cafe. A local woman, a regular at the Cafe told my wife that she was a Clint Eastwood woman ( as opposed to a John Wayne one ). She guessed right. Seems the locals have gathered quite a lot of experience distinguishing the two sets.
