  1. I like the flow of this. It brings back memories of photographing mud like this in and around Death Valley. But I never made a photo of those mud cracks that had so much lyricism.

    • Thank you. I call the waterways because that’s what they are to me. Rarely do they have water in them, but sometimes they do after a rain. The caliche keeps the water from absorbing, so for a few days or weeks this water is there and it’s really beautiful.

      • Caliche is a new word for me. Thank you for explaining – so the rain comes, I do know how sporadic it can be in the desert – and minerals in the soil prevent it from being absorbed easily. Then you have the beautiful cracked mud shapes after it finally dries up – maybe mostly from evaporation?
